ASTM A409 Welded Large Diameter Stainless Steel Pipe
Austenitic stainless steels are mainly used for corrosion resistance purposes and heat treatment has a significant impact on them. The corrosion and acid resistance of austenitic stainless steel relies heavily on surface passivation, and if this behaviour of surface passivation is not maintained, it will corrode. Therefore, austenitic stainless steel is not completely stainless, it is only for oxidising and acidic environments. It is not strongly resistant to specific ions.
