ASTM A252 Grade 3 Pipe Pile

The A252 specification includes three grades (1, 2, and 3), and grade 3 pipe pile materials are the most commonly used choice.
ASTM A252 Definition

ASTM A252 is a standard specification for welded and seamless steel pipe piles. It covers the nominal wall thickness of cylindrical steel pipes, excluding rectangular pipes. These round pipes are used for pile driving, playing the role of permanent load bearing and pressure bearing. In addition, they are used as tank shells at project sites for filling concrete piles.

The standard is in inch pounds (which can also be converted to SI units) to provide engineers or designers with reference A252 pipe data as a basis for building strength.
The standard limits the element P (phosphorus) to a maximum of 0.050%, because P makes steel brittle and, most importantly, is not conducive to welding performance. The ASTM A252 standard specification only defines the phosphorus content, and the other elements are in line with general carbon steel materials.

Considering the type of manufacturing, ASTM A252 pipe piles can be manufactured by seamless or welded processes.

Seamless pipe piles are also known as hot rolled or cold drawn and hot expanded seamless pipes.
Welded pipe piles

Welded pipe piles include ERW (electric resistance welding), flash welding, fusion welding or submerged arc welding SSAW or LSAW. Longitudinal or spiral welding.
