This specification covers nominal wall cylindrical steel pipe piles in which the steel cylinder serves as a permanent load-bearing member or casing to form a cast-in-place concrete pile. Each welded pile must be seamless, resistance welded, flash welded or fusion welded with longitudinal, spiral butt or spiral lap joints.

- Test Methods
Thermal Analysis: Limit P, the thermal analysis report shall be stated in the MTC to the customer.
Product Analysis: Specifically, 2 samples per 200 pieces under 14 inches, 2 samples per 100 pieces from 14 to 36 inches, and 2 samples per 3000 feet above 36 inches.
Tensile requirements: According to A252 value. If the yield point is ambiguous, test the yield strength corresponding to a permanent deflection of 0.2% of the specimen length, or test the total elongation under load at 0.5% of the specimen length.
- Dimensional and weight tolerances
Allowable tolerances: +/-1% on outside diameter, +/-12% on wall thickness. Weight should be +15% or -5% of theoretical weight.
Lengths: As specified SRL, DRL or fixed lengths of 20' or 40' and custom lengths.
- Hydrostatictest
Hydrostatic testing is not specified in the ASTM A252 pipe specification because piling pipes are typically filled with cement and concrete and formed and are not used for liquid conveyance, so hydrostatic testing is not required.
