1. AR500 steel is a high-hardness wear-resistant steel. The letters "AR" stand for wear resistance, and 500 represents the hardness of the steel. However, its score in the hardness test is 477-555BHN (Brinell hardness), and the hardness range is approximately between 470-540BHN. The actual surface hardness is 477-534BHN.
2. Chemical composition and standards
Usually manufactured in accordance with US standards (such as ASMSA-332SA332M), the specific chemical composition varies depending on the manufacturer and purpose, but generally contains high manganese elements to increase hardness and wear resistance.
3. Alloy type
It is a high-carbon steel alloy, very similar to AR450 and AR400. This type of steel has enhanced hardness, but reduced ductility.
4. Performance characteristics
Wear resistance: It has excellent resistance to sliding wear, friction wear and heavy wear, and is suitable for high wear environments, such as mining and concrete processing.
Impact resistance: It can withstand high impact stress even at extremely low temperatures, and its impact resistance and sliding wear resistance are high. It also has a high tensile strength of up to 500ksi (i.e. 3041.86Bar), and its high tensile strength makes it difficult to break during tension.
Stability: High yield strength can maintain the stability and integrity of the structure when subjected to heavy pressure and high load; high elongation can absorb more energy when impacted or deformed, reducing the possibility of damage
5. Application field
Military field: It is a high-performance bulletproof steel plate that can be used to manufacture heavy armored vehicles, bulletproof vests, bulletproof shields and other military equipment that require high-strength protection.
Industrial field: Due to its wear resistance and impact resistance, it is widely used in mining machinery, construction machinery, targets, armored applications, truck plows, etc.; it is also often used to make targets, because its durability can reduce the frequency of replacement, reduce costs and prevent equipment failure
