API 5LX46 large-diameter welded pipe strictly adheres to the API SPEC 5L standard. "X46" represents a minimum yield strength of 46 ksi (approximately 317 MPa), and "M" indicates continuous welding (ERW or LSAW) as the manufacturing process.
- Chemical Composition: Carbon content must be controlled below 0.12%, with manganese, silicon, and other elements added in proportion. Harmful elements such as sulfur and phosphorus must be below 0.025% to ensure weld quality.
- Mechanical Properties: In addition to yield strength, tensile strength must reach 435-760 MPa, and Charpy impact energy at -20°C must be not less than 40 J.
Compared to traditional seamless steel pipes, this type of welded pipe has three core advantages:
1. Strength-Toughness Balance: Through micro-alloying design and controlled rolling and cooling processes, while ensuring strength, the Charpy impact energy can reach over 40 J at -20℃, meeting the anti-brittle fracture requirements of pipelines in extremely cold regions.
2. Dimensional Accuracy Control: API 5L X46 straight seam welded pipe uses the JCOE forming process, allowing diameter tolerances to be controlled within ±0.5% and wall thickness deviations to not exceed ±10%, significantly superior to spiral welded pipes.

Outstanding economic efficiency: Compared with seamless steel pipes of the same grade, API 5L X46 straight seam welded pipe has a 15%-20% higher material utilization rate and a 30% lower production cost, making it particularly suitable for the construction of large-diameter (usually 406mm-1219mm) pipelines.
