What are flexible joints

Flexible joints, also known as a double-flange loose-sleeve expansion joint, limiting expansion joint, or expansion device, is a type of expansion device used for pipeline connections.

This device consists of a body, gland, sealing ring, limiting bolts, and expansion tube. It employs a double-flange design for direct connection to the pipeline flange. During axial displacement, the expansion tube slides within the body, and the NBR sealing ring generates elastic resistance through 40% compression. Radial displacement is compensated by the joint deflection angle. The limiting device uses a high-strength bolt structure, forming a mechanical stop when the expansion reaches a preset value. It is particularly suitable for pipeline connections subject to vibration or with a certain degree of inclination or bends.

The double-flanged expansion joint (Flexible Joint) features an integral cast structure for both the body and gland, made of resin sand casting from ductile iron GGG50, conforming to DIN1693 requirements. It boasts a strength greater than 500MPa and an elongation greater than 10%, exceeding that of QT400-10. It exhibits high strength and corrosion resistance, and the stress under pipeline pressure differential does not exceed 1/5 of the material's tensile strength.

1) Body: The body is the central metal pipe that transports the pipeline medium, made of carbon steel.

2) Sealing Ring: The sealing ring is a sealing material fitted inside the expansion joint. Utilizing the properties of rubber, the rubber ring performs exceptionally well in sealing the expansion joint.

3) Limiting Short Pipe: This part connects to the pipeline at both ends of the expansion joint, using flange holes on its edges to connect the entire double-flanged expansion joint to the pipeline.

4) Gland: This part is primarily used to compress the rubber ring, ensuring it is taut. This taut state is essential for achieving a good seal. 5) Long screw section: This section mainly consists of screws, used to connect the various components of the double-flange expansion joint, making them a unified whole.

6) Short screw section: The short screw, also called a limiting screw, is used to limit the movement of the entire pipeline, allowing the expansion joint's displacement to compensate for its own large displacement.

7) Nut section: This part is simple; it's used to fix the position and length of the screw.
