1. Scope
ASTM A210 standard covers seamless medium carbon steel boiler and superheater tubes, including minimum wall thickness, tube size, boiler flue (including safety ends, arched tubes and braces), etc. This specification does not apply to cases where safety ends are made by forge welding. The tubes are usually provided with an outside diameter of 1/2 inch to 5 inches [12.7 to 127 mm] and a minimum wall thickness of 0.035 to 0.500 inches [0.9 to 12.7 mm], but tubes with other sizes can also be provided as long as they meet other requirements of the specification.
2. Grade Classification
ASTM A210 / ASME SA210 provides A210 A1 grade and A210 C grade.
3. Manufacturing Requirements
Material smelting: The material manufacturing should be calm steel.
Manufacturing process: The tubes should be manufactured by seamless process and marked as hot-working or cold-working. The surface condition should be clearly stated in the order.
Delivery status: Hot rolled tubes are delivered in hot rolled state, cold drawn tubes are delivered in semi-critical annealing, full annealing or normalizing state.
Surface treatment: If specified in the order, the surface of the steel tube shall be pickled or shot peened or pickled and shot peened.
4. Chemical composition requirements
The chemical composition shall meet the requirements of the specification, and the use of elemental components not listed in the specification is not allowed.
5. Performance test requirements
The specimens shall be subjected to tensile test, flatness test, expansion test, hardness test, hydrostatic test or non-destructive electrical test. Superheater tubes shall be free of defects and shall be able to withstand expansion, crimping, forging, welding and bending.
6. Tensile and hardness properties
The specification provides tensile and hardness properties, but only for certain size limits
