Differences between Series 1 and Series 2 stainless steel pipes

1. Composition
Series 1: Generally, chromium (Cr) and nickel (Ni) are the main alloying elements, such as 304 stainless steel containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel. This composition makes Series 1 have good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance, suitable for use in corrosive environments.
Series 2: Mainly composed of chromium, nickel and a small amount of molybdenum (Mo), such as 316 stainless steel containing 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum. The addition of molybdenum makes Series 2 have higher corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance than Series 1.
2. Performance
Corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance: Series 2 stainless steel water pipes contain molybdenum elements, so their corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance are relatively better, and are more suitable for environments with high requirements for corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance; Series 1 stainless steel water pipes also have certain corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance, but their performance is inferior to Series 2.
3. Strength: 1 series stainless steel water pipes have good performance in tensile strength. The strength of 304 stainless steel is about 2 times that of galvanized pipes, 3-4 times that of copper pipes, and 8-10 times that of PPR pipes.
Other properties: 2 series stainless steel water pipes are more wear-resistant.
4. Applications
1 series: Usually used in drinking water pipes, HVAC systems, architectural decoration and other fields, and also suitable for general industrial applications, such as water supply pipes, heating pipes, beverage manufacturing pipes, chemical pipes, etc. Because of its good weldability, formability and low cost, it is also commonly used in common industrial pipelines, pressure vessels, petrochemicals, food processing and other fields
2 series: More commonly used in occasions with high corrosion resistance requirements, such as chemical industry, marine environment, pulp and papermaking, marine engineering and nuclear industry
5. Thickness and cost
Thickness: 2 series stainless steel water pipes are usually thicker than 1 series.
Cost: Generally speaking, the material cost of 1 series stainless steel water pipes is lower. If you are installing stainless steel water pipes at home, choosing 1 series can reduce material costs and construction difficulty
