Differences between 2 series, 3 series and 4 series of stainless steel

1. Material composition
2 series: Different data have different opinions. One view is that 304L stainless steel is used; another view is that 2 series stainless steel, such as 316 stainless steel, contains 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum.
3 series: refers to stainless steel with US standard grade 3xx (such as 304, 316), which are austenitic, austenitic-ferritic (duplex) stainless steel.
4 series: refers to stainless steel with US standard grade 4xx (such as 410, 420), which are ferritic and martensitic stainless steel.
2. Corrosion resistance
2 series: There are different opinions. One view is that its carbon content is low, which significantly improves corrosion resistance and is more suitable for specific corrosive environments; another view is that its corrosion resistance is not as good as 3 series, but it still has better corrosion resistance than some ordinary steels.
3 series: Good corrosion resistance, far better than 2 series. It can resist corrosion from a variety of media, especially in some humid environments with chemical corrosion risks.
Series 4: Compared with Series 3, it has poor corrosion resistance, but it can still be used in some mildly corrosive environments 1.
3. Mechanical properties
Series 2: It has different performances in different environments. It performs well at low temperatures, has excellent corrosion resistance and wear resistance, but its strength and plasticity are relatively poor

Series 3: It has certain strength and good ductility, but its overall mechanical properties are not as good as Series 4.
Series 4: The mechanical properties are better than Series 3, with higher strength, hardness and wear resistance
4. Processing performance
Series 2: After selecting a specific processing technology (such as combining manual and automatic welding), it can ensure the quality of the weld and can adapt to some complex processing requirements, but the overall processing difficulty and process requirements are relatively targeted.
Series 3: It has good processing performance, is easy to cold and hot process, and can be made into products of various shapes through a variety of processing methods.
4 series: The processing performance is relatively poor, especially hardening is prone to occur during cold processing
5. Applicable scenarios
2 series: Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, it is more suitable for special environments such as seawater treatment, sewage treatment and chemical transportation. It is also suitable for low-strength, low-load and special corrosive environments, such as boilers, automobile exhaust systems and building facades. In addition, it is often used in water pipe systems in high-end decoration and construction projects 3.
3 series: Due to its excellent corrosion resistance and processing performance, it is widely used in kitchen utensils, food processing equipment, chemical pipelines, architectural decoration and other fields.
4 series: Often used in occasions requiring higher mechanical properties, such as tools, shafts, high-strength components, etc.
