What is the difference between A53 and A500 pipe

  • The round HSS has an excellent surface finish without the paint coating commonly found on A53 pipe. This saves cost and time as the paint layer needs to be removed from the A53 pipe in order to be welded and painted.

A53 pipes are available in standard pipe sizes only. A500 round high speed steel is available in a variety of sizes and wall thicknesses.
Applications for ASTM A500 include structural supports, building columns, highway signs, oilfield services and communications towers, among others. All steel structures have their advantages and disadvantages, but at the end of the day, when you need round profiles, ASTM A500 is the better choice.
