1. Scope of Application and Standard Requirements
For steel pipes to be BIS certified, taking stainless steel welded steel pipes as an example, the applicable standards cover general-purpose stainless steel welded steel pipes with an outer diameter range of 3 mm to 2000 mm. Applicable stainless steel types include austenitic, ferritic, martensitic and duplex steels.
2. Production requirements
The pipes should be manufactured using an automated welding process without adding filler metal during the welding process.
Austenitic stainless steel pipes can also be supplied in a deep cold working (HCW) condition by cold working to reduce the wall thickness and weld thickness by at least 35% before final annealing.
Austenitic stainless steel welded pipes and deep cold working (HCW) pipes with an outer diameter greater than 355.6 mm can have a longitudinal weld, which is produced by forming and welding the longitudinal sections of two flat billets with the approval of the purchaser.
The pipes in this standard must be supplied in a heat-treated state.
3. Certification process and related requirements
Related requirements for certification process
Find standards: Find and confirm Indian national standards related to steel pipe products, which may involve standards for specific types, uses or specifications.
Choose a certification body: Choose a certification body recognized by BIS. A list of certified bodies can be found on the BIS website.
Prepare technical documents: Collect and prepare technical documents for the product, including product specifications, manufacturing process instructions, test reports, etc. Documents that may be required include application forms, appointment forms proving that there is an agent in India, documents proving the establishment of the company (such as registration certificates), process flow charts, quality control system documents, other details of product or system certification, details of components or raw materials used in product manufacturing, a list of machines used in manufacturing, a list of test equipment used in the testing process, product design drawings, qualifications and experience details of laboratory supervisors and related staff, test reports from recognized independent laboratories or the factory's own laboratories, layout diagrams of the plant, and traffic diagrams near the factory, etc.
Conduct relevant tests: Conduct relevant tests that comply with Indian national standards, which may include mechanical property tests, chemical composition analysis, dimensional inspections, etc. By sampling and testing samples from factories and the market, it is determined whether the product is consistent with Indian standards.
Factory review: The certification body may audit the manufacturing process. BIS will assign a group of no more than 2 officials to inspect the factory. The applicant must bear the travel expenses, visa fees and corresponding inspection fees of the officials to the factory inspection to ensure that the manufacturing process meets the BIS certification requirements, including production equipment, quality control system, etc. At the same time, employee training should be provided so that they can understand and comply with Indian national standards and BIS certification requirements.
Submit application: Submit BIS certification application to the selected certification body, including relevant documents and test reports.
4. Audit and certification: The certification body will conduct an audit to ensure that the product meets Indian national standards. If passed, BIS certification will be issued. The certificate is valid for 1 year. After the certificate is granted, the holder must pay the labeling fee and the annual certificate fee every year. BIS will also monitor the quality of its certified products through regular supervision of the holder and surprise inspections and tests of samples in factories and markets.
5. Other matters needing attention
Comply with relevant laws and regulations of the Indian government. Before applying, you need to carefully understand the relevant information to ensure that the application goes smoothly.
Before applying for BIS certification, you must ensure that your product complies with relevant Indian standards and regulations. At the same time, pay attention to market demand and adjust your product in a timely manner based on product sales and consumer feedback to better meet market demand.
