ASTM A53 Resistance Welded Pipe Raw Materials

Steel used to manufacture ASTM A53 steel pipe (including seamless and welded pipe) should be produced using the following processes: open-hearth electric furnace or basic oxygen converter.

Different grades of steel are produced using separate flow casting, requiring identification of the resulting transition material. Manufacturers should remove the transition material using any established process that clearly distinguishes the different grades.

Therefore, no untempered martensite should remain in the weld, or any remaining untempered martensite should be removed by other methods.

If the pipe is cold-flared, the flaring amount should not exceed 1.5% of the pipe diameter.
