Product Introduction

A358 CL2 Welded Pipe Description

A358 Class 2 welded pipe is an electric fusion welded austenitic chromium-nickel alloy steel pipe used for corrosive or high-temperature environments. It employs double-sided welding with filler metal in all weld passes and does not require radiographic inspection.

A358 electric fusion welded pipes are available in four additional grades: A358 Class 1, A358 Class 3, A358 Class 4, and A358 Class 5. As a renowned steel pipe supplier, GNEE Group can provide you with all these welded pipes. We welcome your inquiries.

A358 Class2 EFW Pipe Welding:

Welded joints should be full penetration butt joints, welded using either double-sided or single-sided welding methods as defined in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section IX "Definitions." Regardless of the type of welding joint (single or double-sided), this standard does not specify any particular requirements for the quality of the weld seam. When using backing rings or backup strips, their material's P-No. value (see QW-22 in Section X) should be the same as that of the steel plates being joined. Before performing any required radiographic inspection after welding, the backing rings or backup strips must be completely removed, and the exposed weld surface must be inspected visually to ensure it meets the requirements of section 6.2.3. Welding processes that do not remove backing rings or strips are prohibited. Welding procedures and welders must be qualified according to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section IX.

Unless otherwise specified, all weld seams should be made using filler metal. The surface of the weld on either side can be flush with the base material or have an excess height of no more than 1/8 inch (3 mm). The height of any weld reinforcement may be determined by the manufacturer or mutually agreed upon by the manufacturer and the purchaser. The reinforcement should be relatively smooth and free from significant irregularities. The deposited metal should be uniformly fused to the surface of the plates. Unless the final thickness of the weld metal is equal to or greater than the minimum thickness of the adjacent base metal, concave weld surfaces are not allowed.

Weld defects must be removed until sound, defect-free metal is achieved, and then the area should be repaired by welding. Subsequent heat treatment and inspection (visual, radiographic, and dye penetrant testing) should be carried out according to the requirements of the original weld.
