A270 specifies a rust test method to check for iron or steel particles on the surface of the stainless steel. This test involves exposing the pipe to water for 12 to 24 hours and then inspecting it for rust spots. However, this test has limited sensitivity and is time-consuming. It is important to note that these are detection tests, not cleaning methods. If iron is detected, it must be cleaned using the chemical and electrochemical methods described later.
