A213 Welded Stainless Pipe Description
The A213 stainless steel welded pipe is specified by American standards for use in boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers, made from carbon steel and austenitic alloy steel. The A213 austenitic stainless steel pipe features a stable austenitic structure at room temperature, containing approximately 18% Cr, more than 8% Ni, and around 0.1% C. It boasts high corrosion resistance, excellent cold workability, toughness, plasticity, weldability, and is non-magnetic. This type of pipe is widely used in various industries, including chemical, oil refining, boiler, and food industries, for applications such as heat exchangers, non-magnetic condensers, evaporators, and fluid transport.

Three Key Production Processes of A213 Stainless Steel Welded Pipes
- Cold Rolling and Annealing
Cold Rolling: This process involves pressure and tensile deformation. While smelting can alter the chemical composition of steel materials, cold rolling does not change the chemical composition of the A213 steel. Instead, it involves passing the coil through the rollers of cold rolling equipment under various pressures to reduce its thickness. The final precision rolling step ensures the coil's thickness accuracy, generally within 0.03 mm.
Annealing: After cold rolling, the coil is placed in a specialised annealing furnace and heated to a specific temperature (900-1100 degrees Celsius). The speed of the annealing furnace is adjusted to achieve the desired hardness. For softer material, the annealing speed is slower, which increases the cost. Both 201 and 304 are austenitic stainless steels and require rapid heating and cooling during annealing to properly restore the metallurgical structure damaged by cold rolling. Therefore, annealing is a critical step. Poor annealing can lead to rusting issues.
The metal heat treatment process involves heating the workpiece to a predetermined temperature, maintaining it at that temperature for a certain period, and then slowly cooling it. The purposes of annealing are:
1. To improve or eliminate various structural defects and residual stresses caused during casting, forging, rolling, and welding processes, thereby preventing deformation and cracking of the workpiece.
2. To soften the workpiece for easier machining.
3. To refine the grain structure and improve the microstructure, thereby enhancing the mechanical properties of the workpiece and preparing the material for final heat treatment and pipe manufacturing.
-
Slitting
Slitting involves cutting stainless steel coils into strips of the desired width for further processing and pipe manufacturing. During the slitting process, it is crucial to ensure proper protection to avoid scratching the coils. Attention must be paid to the width and precision of the slits, as well as to prevent burrs and sharp edges, which can affect the efficiency of the pipe manufacturing process. Poorly executed slitting can lead to defects in the welded pipes, directly impacting the yield of the final products.
- Polishing
After the A213 pipe is formed, it undergoes surface polishing using a polishing machine. The surface treatment of standard and decorative pipes typically involves several processes, including polishing, which can be classified into bright (mirror), 6K, and 8K finishes to meet various customer requirements.
