What is Elbow
Elbow is a pipe fitting used to change the direction of pipelines in piping systems, primarily applied in plumbing and heating installations.
Classification by Angle:
Standard angles: 45°, 90°, 180°.
Non-standard angles (for special engineering needs): 60°, etc.
Defined as an elbow when the bending radius ≤ 1.5 times the pipe diameter.
Materials & Connection Methods:
Materials: Cast iron, malleable iron, stainless steel, alloy steel, carbon steel, non-ferrous metals, and plastics.
Connection methods: Direct welding, flange connection, hot-melt connection, electrofusion connection, threaded connection, and socket connection.
Manufacturing Processes:
By production method: Welded elbow, stamped elbow, push-formed elbow, cast elbow.
Key production techniques:
Hot push forming (uniform wall thickness, continuous operation – primary method for carbon steel elbows).
Stamping forming.
Plate welding.
Surface treatment: Shot blasting and anti-corrosion coating.
Packaging: Large individual pieces require independent boxes with labeled dimensional parameters.
Applications:
Widely used in chemical, construction, petroleum, power generation, shipbuilding, and other engineering fields. Elbows serve two key functions in piping systems:
Directional change.
Connecting pipes of different diameters.
