Sucker rod couplings are used to connect two sucker rods. They are threaded at both ends, allowing for the combination of sucker rods of different diameters as needed. GNEE manufactures two types of couplings: sucker rod couplings and reducing couplings. Both are designed according to API Spec 11B standards and made of high-quality carbon steel or alloy structural steel (equivalent to AISI 1045 or AISI 4135). Normally, there are two wrench marks on the coupling and its outer diameter, but wrenchless couplings are also available upon request. T-grade couplings have a hardness of HRA56-62 after heat treatment, exhibiting good corrosion resistance and wear resistance.
Structure:
Comprising a rod body connecting section, threaded interface, and surface treatment layer, the rod features a tapered spindle-shaped design at both ends to reduce wellbore impact. HY-grade products feature a convex, retaining stud on the rod body, which is surface hardened to form a high-strength connection with the coupling. The outer wall is fitted with a carbon fiber reinforced PPS wear-resistant layer or a nickel-based spray-welded layer, and the ends are welded with a high-hardness alloy impact-resistant layer.
Functions and Roles:
Sucker rod couplings play a crucial role in transmitting power in pumping wells. During the upstroke, they must withstand the combined load of the fluid column weight and the sucker rod's own weight. Accurate positioning and installation of the centralizer relies on the mechanical limiting function of the couplings, reducing repeated friction caused by bending at the bottom of the rod string. Custom-shaped couplings can improve the stress state of the rod string and extend the well's maintenance-free period.
Applications of Sucker Rod Couplings
Sucker rod couplings are widely used in oil and gas extraction, storage and transportation, and chemical industries. They are a crucial component ensuring normal oilfield production and are widely used in major oilfields both domestically and internationally. Currently, GNEE Group has developed various models and specifications of products to meet the needs of different applications.
