‌Characteristic‌ ‌A671 CC65‌ ‌A671 CC60‌
‌Carbon Content‌ Higher carbon content (typically up to 0.25% - 0.27% or as specified, but generally higher than CC60) Lower carbon content, controlled below 0.3% (specifically designed for medium-low carbon steel)
‌Strength‌ Generally higher tensile and yield strength due to higher carbon content Tensile strength ≥ 415 MPa, yield strength ≥ 240 MPa (as per standard specifications)
‌Toughness‌ Good toughness, but may vary depending on exact carbon content and heat treatment Better low-temperature toughness, suitable for colder environments (though both are designed for specific service conditions)
‌Applications‌ Suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature services in industries like oil and gas, petrochemicals, and power generation where higher strength is required Primarily used in similar industries but where medium-low carbon steel with good weldability and low-temperature toughness is sufficient
‌Weldability‌ Weldability may be slightly reduced compared to lower carbon grades, but still acceptable Excellent weldability due to lower carbon content
‌Service Temperature‌ Designed for general high-temperature and high-pressure services (exact minimum service temperature may vary) CL22 grade specifically designed for minimum service temperature of -45°C, suitable for extremely cold environments

A671 CC60 EFW Pipe Production Process and Technical Challenges

‌Plate Preprocessing‌

Hot-rolled coil is used as the raw material, and processes such as leveling and edge milling are employed to ensure the precision of the plate edges. The plates must comply with ASTM A516 Gr.60 or equivalent standards, with thickness deviation controlled within ±0.1mm.

‌Forming and Welding‌

The plates are rolled into tubular shapes using the JCOE (progressive bending forming) or UOE (die forming) process, and longitudinal seams are welded using submerged arc welding with multiple wires (SAWL). The following parameters need to be precisely controlled during the welding process:

Current and voltage: For twin-wire welding, the main wire current ranges from 500 to 700A, while the auxiliary wire current ranges from 300 to 450A.

Welding speed: 1.2-1.8m/min.

Shielding gas: A mixture of 80% Ar and 20% CO₂.

‌Heat Treatment and Inspection‌

After welding, the entire pipe must undergo normalizing treatment (holding at 900-930°C for 30 minutes) to eliminate welding residual stresses. The finished product must pass a hydrostatic test (at 1.5 times the design pressure), hardness test (≤250HB), and Charpy V-notch impact test (with an average value ≥27J at -45°C).
