TU42B steel pipe

1. What material is TU42B steel pipe made of?
TU42B is a seamless steel pipe specified in the Chinese GB/T 8162 standard and is a high-quality carbon structural steel (similar to ASTM A106 Gr.B). The "TU" in its designation stands for "universal seamless steel pipe," "42" indicates a minimum tensile strength of 420 MPa or higher, and "B" represents the quality grade (B being the highest requirement). Its chemical composition is primarily carbon (C) and manganese (Mn), with low sulfur and phosphorus impurities, resulting in balanced overall performance.

2. What are its main performance characteristics?

Medium-high strength: Tensile strength of 420-600 MPa, yield strength ≥245 MPa;

Good plasticity: Elongation ≥25%, suitable for cold bending or flaring;

Good weldability: Can be joined using conventional arc welding or gas welding, but heat input must be controlled to avoid embrittlement.

3. What are typical applications? It is primarily used for low-pressure fluid transport and general structural components, such as:

Building scaffolding and support structures;
Low-pressure piping systems for water, gas, and oil;
Non-high-load components such as shafts and rollers in mechanical equipment.

4. What is the difference between TU42A and other grades?

Compared to TU42A: TU42B has a lower sulfur and phosphorus content (≤0.035%), improved impact toughness, and is suitable for more demanding environments.

Compared to alloy steel pipe: TU42B is less expensive, but its high-temperature and corrosion resistance are weaker than alloy steels (such as 15CrMo).

5. Processing and Usage Precautions?

Cutting and Forming: Plasma or saw cutting is acceptable. Cold bending with a radius ≥ 2 times the pipe diameter is recommended.

Anti-corrosion Treatment: For use in humid environments, spray anti-rust paint or galvanize.

Standard Compliance: When purchasing, confirm compliance with GB/T 8162-2018 and verify the manufacturer's warranty.
