EN 10204 2.2 Certification Requirements for Steel Pipes

1. Basic Definition
The EN 10204 2.2 certificate is a certificate verified by a third party (usually a certification body or an independent laboratory) that indicates that the product or material complies with relevant standards and specifications. For steel pipes, this certificate means that the steel pipes meet the corresponding order requirements and standards.

2. Specific certification requirements
Factory system aspects
Quality management system: The enterprise needs to have a complete quality management system and an ISO 9001 quality system. A complete quality management system helps to ensure the stability of the production process and the consistency of product quality, providing a basic guarantee for certification.
Equipment requirements: Review whether the company's equipment is complete and whether it can independently complete the tests specified by the standards that the materials produced need to meet. For example, for steel pipes, dimensional measurement (such as diameter, wall thickness, length, straightness), hydrostatic pressure testing, ultrasonic (UT) testing, hardness testing, impact testing, etc. may be required, and the company needs to have the corresponding testing equipment.
Personnel qualifications: Review whether the company's product testers have the corresponding qualifications and capabilities to complete the required tests. Professional testers can accurately operate equipment, record data and analyze to ensure the reliability of test results.
3. Production process control: Review the company's raw materials and production process, and product quality control. From the purchase and inspection of raw materials to each link in the production process and the final inspection before the product leaves the factory, strict quality control measures are required to ensure that the quality of the steel pipe meets the standards.
In terms of testing, auditors will go to the company for sampling tests, mainly testing the chemical composition, impact test, tensile properties, etc. of the samples. For steel pipes, these tests are the key to evaluating their quality and performance. The chemical composition determines the basic properties of the steel pipe, the impact test reflects the toughness of the steel pipe under impact load, and the tensile property reflects the strength and plasticity of the steel pipe.

4. Conflict of interest
Although the EN 10204 2.2 certificate is issued by the steel mill, it should be noted that there is no separation between the quality assurance department and the manufacturing department, which may cause conflicts of interest. And the test results may not actually reflect the product provided. The manufacturer can provide a sampling process for its quality assurance system, such as testing 1% of the plates, and then provide the test results of this 1% of the plates with the order, but the plates actually provided may not have been tested. Therefore, it is necessary to rely on the strengths of the factory QA system to produce homogeneous products with almost no changes2.

5. Follow-up of the certification process
The auditor writes the technical documents and submits them to the EU agency for filing together with the test report, and finally issues the certificate. If the company cannot meet the above conditions and the export volume is not large, it can choose to have a third party conduct batch testing and certification, and issue EN 10204-3.2 material certificate
