S235JR and S275JR are two different structural steel materials, their differences are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
Strength Grade: S235JR and S275JR are different strength grades. the tensile strength of S235JR is usually in the range of 360-510 MPa, with a yield strength of 235 MPa. whereas the tensile strength of S275JR is usually in the range of 410-560 MPa, with a yield strength of 275 MPa. therefore, the strength of S275JR is slightly higher than that of S235JR.
Chemical Composition: The chemical compositions of S235JR and S275JR are also different. Although both contain no more than 0.21 percent carbon, S275JR usually contains no more than 0.60 percent silicon (Si) and 1.70 percent manganese (Mn), while S235JR contains no more than 0.35 percent silicon (Si) and 1.40 percent manganese (Mn). In addition, there are slight differences in the content of phosphorus P and sulfur (S).
Impact Toughness: S235JR and S275JR also differ in terms of impact toughness; S275JR typically has better impact toughness and can maintain good toughness at low temperatures.
Applications: Due to the differences in strength and impact toughness, S235JR and S275JR may differ in their scope of use.S235JR is commonly used in general building structures, industrial plants, bridges, and other fields. S275JR is suitable for structures subject to larger loads and moments, such as high-rise buildings, bridges, etc. due to its higher strength and better impact toughness.
