What is the difference between pipe pile and sheet pile

Different Materials

Steel Sheet Piles: Steel sheet piles are formed by welding sheet metal after chamfering. They are single-section pipe piles. They are typically made of high-quality, low-alloy, ultra-strong steel, such as Q345B.

Steel Pipe Piles: Steel pipe piles are made by cutting and joining steel pipes. They are typically made of general materials, such as Q235B.

Different Construction Methods

Steel Sheet Piles: During steel sheet pile construction, a hole is first drilled. The edges of the steel sheet pile are secured during drilling. The pile is then pushed into the soil along the depth of the hole. Finally, a concrete cap is placed on the pile top to achieve a certain bearing capacity.

Steel Pipe Piles: Steel pipe piles are buried to the desired depth using prying, vibration, or other methods. The pile top is then poured with concrete to achieve a certain bearing capacity.

Different Applications

Steel Sheet Piles: Steel sheet piles are primarily suitable for use in strata such as sand, silt, and moist clay. They can effectively control building deformation and foundation settlement.

Steel pipe piles: Steel pipe piles have a wider range of applications and can be used in a variety of ground conditions, such as hard soil, rock formations, hard siltstone, and sand and gravel.

Other Differences

1. Steel sheet piles offer excellent water-repellent properties and are commonly used in underwater projects.

2. Steel pipe piles can be customized, with the pile body sharpened, bent, and other methods to accommodate complex terrain conditions.

3. Steel sheet piles are less expensive than steel pipe piles, but they offer clear advantages in terms of ecological and geological protection.
