ASTM A53 material introduction

1. ASTM A53 is a standard specification for welded and seamless carbon steel pipes developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). The standard specifies the mechanical properties, chemical composition and other requirements of steel pipes and is widely used in international trade and engineering projects. It belongs to the American standard and has different grade classifications.

2. ASTM A53 materials corresponding to different grades
Classification by corresponding domestic materials
Grade A: There are different opinions on the corresponding domestic materials in China. One view is that A53-A corresponds to the domestic 10# material; there is also a view that Grade A corresponds to the domestic material in China Q235A. The corresponding Chinese standard for ASTM steel pipe A53A is GB8163, and the material is 10# steel.
Grade B: Equivalent to the domestic 20# material, the corresponding Chinese standard is GB8163, and the material is 20#. There is also a view that this material is similar to the national standard Q235B. ASTM (standard) A53 (brand) gr, that is, grade (grade) b (B grade) is a fluid seamless carbon steel pipe, equivalent to 20# seamless steel pipe.
A53 - F: corresponds to the domestic q235 material.
Chemical composition of ASTM A53 material
The requirements for the content of each element in ASTM A53 steel pipe are as follows: carbon (C) ≤ 0.25, silicon (Si) is not clearly specified, manganese (Mn) ≤ 0.95, phosphorus (P) ≤ 0.05, sulfur (S) ≤ 0.045, nickel (Ni) ≤ 0.40, chromium (Cr) ≤ 0.15, copper (Cu) ≤ 0.25, molybdenum (Mo) ≤ 0.15, vanadium (V) ≤ 0.083.

3. Mechanical properties of ASTM A53 seamless steel pipe
The yield strength (MPa) of ASTM A53 seamless steel pipe is ≥ 205, the elongation (%) is ≥ 24, and the impact energy (J) does not give a specific value.

4. ASTM A53 corresponds to domestic standards
In China, the corresponding standards of ASTM A53 are GB/T 3091 and GB/T 3092, but there are obvious differences between ASTM A53 and GB/T 3091/3092 standards, mainly reflected in the chemical composition and mechanical properties of the materials.

5. GB/T 3091: This standard specifies the requirements for welded and seamless cold-rolled steel pipes, which are suitable for low-pressure fluid transportation in civil buildings, structures, ventilation and cement transportation.
GB/T 3092: This standard specifies the requirements for welded and seamless hot-rolled steel pipes, which are suitable for high-pressure fluid transportation in civil buildings, structures and ventilation.
