ASTM A252, published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM International), is a standard specification specifically for welded and seamless carbon steel pipe piles. This standard aims to ensure the quality, reliability, and safety of steel pipe piles, which are widely used in foundation engineering for buildings, bridges, and other structures, providing stable support for these structures. Steel cylindrical pipe piles used as permanent load-bearing components, or pipe piles forming a cast-in-place concrete shell, all conform to this standard.
Based on strength levels, steel pipe piles are classified into three grades: Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3. Grade 1 steel pipe piles possess sufficient strength and toughness, suitable for most conventional foundation engineering applications; Grade 2 has slightly higher strength than Grade 1 and is widely used in some general projects with higher load-bearing capacity requirements; Grade 3 is a high-strength grade steel pipe pile, mainly used for special projects with extremely high strength requirements or foundation engineering for important structures such as large buildings and bridges, with yield strength and tensile strength far exceeding the first two grades.

ASTM A252 Welded Pipe Test Requirements
Tension test: At the option of the manufacturer, the tension test specimens shall be longitudinal or transverse strip test specimens, with a gage length of 2 in.
Heat Analysis: Limits to elements P, and heat result shall be reported in MTC to customer.
Hydrostatic test : Hydrotest is not required
Outside Diameter: The outside diameter of pipe piles shall not vary more than 61 % from the specified outside diameter.
Surface imperfections: Having a depth not in excess of 12.5 % of the specified nominal wall thickness shall be acceptable. It shall be permissible to establish the depth of such
imperfections by grinding or filing.
