The "L" signifies this suitability for service. L80 is available in several types (e.g., L80-1, L80-9Cr, L80-13Cr), with the chromium content defining its resistance to CO₂ corrosion. It is the go-to choice for production casing and tubing in sour fields.
**P110: The High-Strength Option for Demanding Wells**
P110 is a high-strength grade, with a minimum yield strength of 110,000 psi. It is used in deep well applications where high collapse, burst, and tensile loads are anticipated, such as in deep intermediate or production casing strings. The "P" stands for "Preliminary," a historical term indicating it was one of the first high-strength grades developed. P110 casing is always quenched and tempered to achieve its high strength. However, this high strength comes with a trade-off: reduced ductility and very low resistance to sulfide stress cracking. Therefore, its use is strictly limited to sweet (non-sour) environments. Special care must be taken during handling and running due to its lower toughness compared to lower grades.
