API 5L X46 material introduction

1. API 5L X46 is a pipeline steel material used for oil and natural gas transportation. Among them, "API 5L" is the standard code for pipeline pipes issued by the American Petroleum Institute (API); "X46" represents the minimum yield strength value specified for steel pipes, in ksi (1ksi = 6.895MPa), and its minimum yield strength after conversion is about 317MPa.

2. Corresponding to domestic steel grades: It corresponds to the domestic steel grade L320. In the API 5L standard pipeline system, X46 and L320 are different representations of the same grade of material.
Different quality grades and state representations: There are many derived representations, such as X46N, X46M, X46Q, etc. Among them, the suffix letter N represents the deformation normalizing state, M represents the delivery state, which is only applicable to the PSL2 quality grade, and the S suffix represents the acid-resistant pipeline steel plate; Q represents the quenching + tempering delivery state. The corresponding domestic steel grades are L320N, L320M, L320Q, etc.

3. In the API 5L standard, line pipes are divided into two quality grades, PSL1 and PSL2. X46 has different technical requirements and application scenarios at different grades

4. PSL1 grade: X46 is a material in this grade, suitable for general oil and gas pipelines. The requirements of PSL1 grade are relatively broad, and the regulations on chemical composition, mechanical properties, etc. are relatively basic.
5. PSL2 grade: There are X46N and other forms of expression. The requirements of this grade are more stringent, and the quality control of steel is more refined. It is suitable for engineering projects with high requirements for pipeline quality and performance, such as some harsh environments or important long-distance pipelines.
