Introduction to LSAW Straight Seam Submerged Arc Welded Pipe (ASTM A53)

The core characteristics of ASTM A53 LSAW carbon steel pipe lie in its excellent pressure resistance and wide application compatibility. The Grade B steel grade covered by this standard provides a yield strength of not less than 240 MPa, suitable for pressurized fluid transport and structural support. It is manufactured using a straight seam submerged arc welding process, pressing steel plates into pipe shapes using JCOE or UOE cold forming technology, and completing double-sided welding of the inner and outer walls under a flux layer to form a deep-penetration, high-strength weld. Subsequent processes include full-body normalizing heat treatment to eliminate residual stress and optimize the metallographic structure, and hydrostatic testing and non-destructive testing according to standard requirements. Finally, finished products with different surface finishes such as bare pipe, painted, or galvanized pipe can be provided according to requirements.

LSAW steel pipes are manufactured using submerged arc welding technology, employing welding wire and granular flux for submerged arc welding. LSAW is the abbreviation for Submerged Arc Welded Straight Seam Steel Pipe. The manufacturing processes for submerged arc welded straight seam steel pipes include JCOE manufacturing process, coil forming submerged arc welding process, and UOE manufacturing process.

The manufacturing process for longitudinally welded steel pipe (LSAW) is as follows: Ultrasonic testing → Edge milling → Pre-bending → Forming → Pre-welding → Inner welding → Outer welding → Ultrasonic testing → X-ray testing → Flaring → Hydrostatic testing → Chamfering → Ultrasonic testing → X-ray testing → Magnetic particle testing of pipe ends.
