GNEE A252 Welded Line Pipe Manufacturing Process

When the A252 GR3 steel plate, intended for the production of large-diameter longitudinal submerged arc welded steel pipes, is put into the production line, it first undergoes a full-plate ultrasonic inspection. Then, a milling machine is used to perform double-sided milling on the two edges of the A252 GR3 steel plate, ensuring that the edges achieve the desired plate width, edge parallelism, and bevel shape. Next, the equipment is used to work on the plate edges to achieve the required curvature.

The steel plate is then formed using a JCO forming machine, where one half of the pre-bent steel plate is subjected to multiple stepwise pressings to form a J shape. The other half is similarly press-formed into a C shape, ultimately forming an open O shape.

The formed A252 GR3 longitudinal welded steel pipe is then joined and continuously welded using gas metal arc welding (MAG). Longitudinal multi-wire submerged arc welding (up to four wires) is used to weld the inside of the A252 GR3 longitudinal welded steel pipe, and the same method is used to weld the outside of the longitudinal submerged arc welded steel pipe. Upon completion of the welding, the pipe undergoes the first ultrasonic inspection (primarily checking the weld and the base material on both sides), the first X-ray inspection (to ensure the sensitivity of the flaw detection), expansion, and hydrostatic testing (with the hydrostatic testing equipment automatically saving the records).

The qualified A252 GR3 steel pipe is then processed to meet the required dimensions, followed by a second ultrasonic inspection, a second X-ray inspection, magnetic particle inspection of the pipe ends, anti-corrosion treatment, and coating, completing the entire processing procedure.
