Product Introduction

A spiral steel pipe, also known as a helical submerged arc welded (HSAW) pipe, is a type of steel pipe used in various applications, primarily for the transportation of fluids and gases. It is characterized by its distinctive helical or spiral weld seam, which is created during the manufacturing process.

Spiral steel pipes are typically produced through the submerged arc welding (SAW) process. The steel strip or coil is unwound, and the edges are prepared for welding. The strip is then formed into a spiral shape, and a continuous weld is made along the seam by a combination of electrical current, flux, and a welding electrode. This process creates a strong and durable weld that runs helically along the length of the pipe.

To ensure that welded pipes comply with quality standards, safety regulations and application-specific requirements, it is vital that they are inspected prior to shipment. The inspection process will vary depending on the type of welded pipe and current industry standards. Below is a list of our inspection programs for welded pipe prior to shipment:

3

Dimensional Inspection

Check the outside diameter (OD) and wall thickness of the pipe to ensure they meet the specified tolerances.

Measure the length of the pipe to ensure it is within the acceptable range.

Verify that the pipe's end bevels or ends are cut correctly, as per the requirements.

Weld Quality Inspection

Examine the weld seams for any defects, such as cracks, porosity, inclusions, or incomplete fusion. This can be done using various non-destructive testing (NDT) methods like radiography, ultrasonic testing, or magnetic particle testing.

Ensure the weld profile and penetration meet the specified standards.

Check for signs of undercuts, excess weld reinforcement, and other surface irregularities.
