Large Diameter Welded Steel Pipes Q235B Description

Q235B large diameter spiral welded pipe is a type of carbon steel pipe made from carbon steel plates using spiral welding, with a diameter greater than 508mm. In Q235B, the letter "Q" stands for "yield strength." Yield strength is the stress at which a material begins to deform plastically. After this point, the material will deform permanently and cannot return to its original shape. The "235" indicates the yield strength value in megapascals (MPa). For instance, Q235 indicates a yield strength of 235 MPa. If the external force exceeds this yield strength, the material will undergo permanent deformation; if it is less than this yield strength, the material will return to its original shape.

The letter "B" denotes the impact temperature. Grade B indicates an impact test at room temperature (20 degrees Celsius). Therefore, the Q235B large diameter spiral welded pipe has a yield strength of 235 MPa and is tested for impact at 20 degrees Celsius.

What are the Differences Between Q235A, Q235B, Q235C, and Q235D Steel Grades?

1. Comparison of Chemical Elements:
In the Chinese standard GB700-88, the main distinction between the materials Q235A and Q235B lies in the carbon content of the steel. For Q235A, the carbon content ranges from 0.14% to 0.22%.
Q235A Grade: Carbon C: ≤0.14~0.22%; Manganese Mn: 0.3%-0.65%; Silicon Si: ≤0.35%; Sulfur S: ≤0.050; Phosphorus P: ≤0.045
Q235B Grade: Carbon C: ≤0.12~0.20%; Manganese Mn: 0.3%-0.7%; Silicon Si: ≤0.35%; Sulfur S: ≤0.045; Phosphorus P: ≤0.045

2. Mechanical Properties:
Q235B material undergoes impact testing at room temperature using a V-notch test, rather than performing impact tests. Relatively speaking, the mechanical properties of steel with Q235B material are far superior to those with Q235A material.
Q235A Grade: No impact testing.
Q235B Grade: Impact testing at 20°C.
Q235C Grade: Impact testing: Temperature 0°C, Akv (longitudinal) = 27J.
Q235D Grade: Impact testing: Temperature 20°C, Akv (longitudinal) = 27J.

3. Application Comparison:
