Manufacturing Process of ERW Pipe
Electric resistance welded (ERW) pipe is manufactured by cold forming a steel plate into a cylindrical shape. Then, an electric current is passed between the two edges of the steel, heating the steel to a degree where the edges are forced together to form a bond without the use of welding filler material.
The steel plate is rolled into a tube and then welded using the electric resistance welding process. It is usually used for large diameters.
Various mechanical equipment and welding, electrical control, and detection devices are required to complete these processes, which vary according to the different. This process requires a reasonable arrangement of multiple processes. The typical process of high-frequency welded pipes is: uncoiling - strip straightening - head and tail cutting - strip butt joint - loop storage - forming - welding - burr removal - sizing - flaw detection - flying shear - initial inspection - pipe straightening - pipe processing - water pressure test - flaw detection - printing and coating - finished product.
High-frequency welding is a welding method that uses high-frequency current to continuously flow through the contact surface of the workpiece, through resistance heating and applying upsetting force, so that the workpiece metals can be continuously welded to each other. It is similar to ordinary resistance welding, but there are many important differences.
High-frequency welding has been used in the production of carbon steel welded pipes for more than 40 years. The high-frequency welding power supply has a high power and can achieve a higher welding speed for steel pipes of different materials, pipe diameters and wall thicknesses (more than 10 times higher than the maximum welding speed of TIG).
Therefore, the production of general high-frequency welded steel pipes has a higher high-frequency welding productivity, and the removal of burrs in the pipe is difficult, which is one of the reasons why high-frequency welded steel pipes have not yet been accepted by the chemical and nuclear industries. In terms of welding materials, high-frequency welding can weld all types of steel pipes. At the same time, new steel grades are developed and forming welding methods are improved.
