Product Introduction

ASTM A500 Class B ERW Resistance Welded Pipe Introduction

ASTM A500 is a cold-formed welded or seamless carbon steel structural pipe suitable for welded, riveted, or bolted connections in bridges, building structures, and general structural applications. Class B is a versatile cold-formed welded or seamless carbon steel structural pipe with a yield strength of not less than 315 MPa [46,000 psi] and a tensile strength of not less than 400 MPa [58,000 psi]. Due to its excellent structural stability and durability, this class of pipe is widely used in various building and mechanical structural engineering projects.

ERW PIPE

Suitable for pipes with an outer diameter ≤2235 mm [88 in] and a wall thickness ≤25.4 mm. However, if the ERW welding process is used, only pipes with a maximum diameter of 660 mm and a wall thickness of 20 mm can be produced.

ASTM A500 Class B Hollow Profile Shapes: CHS: Round hollow profile. RHS: Square or rectangular hollow profile. EHS: Elliptical hollow profile.

ASTM A500 Class B Resistance Welded Pipe Raw Material Manufacturing Process

Steel should be produced using one or more of the following processes: basic oxygen converter steelmaking or electric arc furnace steelmaking. Basic Oxygen Converter Steelmaking: This is a modern, rapid steelmaking method that reduces carbon content by blowing oxygen into molten pig iron, while simultaneously removing unwanted elements such as sulfur and phosphorus. This method is suitable for rapid, high-volume steelmaking. Electric Arc Furnace Steelmaking: Electric arc furnace steelmaking utilizes a high-temperature electric arc to melt scrap steel and directly reduce iron. It is particularly suitable for producing specialty steels, controlling alloy composition, and small-batch production.

ASTM A500 Manufacturing Process: Pipes should be manufactured using resistance welding (ERW). The ERW welding process involves rolling the metal material into a cylinder and applying resistance and pressure along its length.
