ASTM A178 ERW Carbon Steel Superheater Tubes

The function of the A178 superheater tube is to absorb heat. It is bent into a snake-like shape, and its two ends are welded to the inlet and outlet headers. During operation, the outside of the superheater tube is exposed to high-temperature flue gas, while high-pressure steam flows inside. The wall temperature (i.e., metal temperature) of the superheater tube is higher than the steam temperature, whereas the wall temperature (i.e., metal temperature) of the steam pipe can be approximately regarded as the same as the superheated steam temperature. The steel used in the superheater tube is subjected to high-temperature stress conditions, meaning it operates under creep conditions. The performance requirements for the steel are determined by these operating conditions and processing requirements.
