Inspection of API 5L ERW Steel Pipes:
1. Sample Preparation for Various Tests:
Tensile Test
CVN Impact Test
Guided Bend Test
Hardness Test
Plate Weld Bead Test
Pipe Weld Bead Test
CTOD (Crack Tip Opening Displacement) Test
2. CTOD Test Specimens:
Specimens should be taken from the weld metal, heat-affected zone (HAZ), and base metal.
Preparation should follow the requirements of ISO 12135, ASTM E1290, or BS 7448.
3. Hardness Test:
Base Metal Hardness Test:
Conducted using the Vickers test method according to ISO 6507-1 or ASTM E92, or the Rockwell HR15N test method according to ISO 6508-1 or ASTM E18.
In case of disputes, the Vickers test method should be used.
HAZ and Weld Metal Hardness Test:
Conducted using the Vickers test method according to ISO 6507-1 or ASTM E92.
4. Criteria for Hardness Test:
In base metal tests, if a single-point hardness reading exceeds the acceptance limit, it may still be considered acceptable if:
The average of the smallest value among three points and the largest value among six additional points taken nearby does not exceed the acceptance limit.
The single-point reading exceeding the limit is within 10 HV10 or 2 HRC (whichever is applicable) above the limit.
