Specification A672 requires:
S1. Tension and Bend Tests
Sl.1 Tensile tests in accordance with 8.1 and bend tests in accordance with 8.2 shall be made on specimens representing each length of pipe.
S2. Charpy V-Notch Test (for pipe with nominal wall thicknesses of inches and above)
S2.1 Requirement-Unless otherwise specified in the purchase order, acceptable test energies shall be the same as shown in Table Al.15 of the applicable plate specification A 20/A 20M. Alternatively, the test temperature may be 10°F
(-12°C).
S2.2 Number of Specimens-Each test shall consist of at least three specimens.
S2.2.1 A base metal test shall be made on a length of pipe for each heat, each heat-treated charge, and each nominal wall thickness. For pipe grades 10, 11, 12, and 13, one base metal test shall be made on each heat for each size and wall thickness.
S2.2.2 Primary test of weld metal and heat affected zone (HAZ) metal shall be made in accordance with NB 4335, Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
S2.3 Specimen Location and Orientation:
S2.3.1 Base metal specimens for stress relieved, normalized, and normalized and tempered steel pipe shall be made in accordance with the provisions for tensile specimens in the body of this specification.
S2.3.2 Base metal specimens for quenched and tempered steel pipe shall be made in accordance with NB 2225, Section Ill of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
