A270 Austenitic Stainless Steel Sanitary Tubing
A270 specifies that welded tubes shall be manufactured using an automatic welding process and that no filler metal shall be added during the welding process. Heavily cold-worked tubes shall be cold-worked on welded tubes to reduce the wall and weld thickness by not less than 35 per cent before final annealing. No fillers shall be used in welding. All material shall be furnished in the heat-treated condition. A section of flat rolled stock or a tube shall be chemically analysed for each heat treatment. Each tube shall be subjected to mechanical testing such as reverse flattening test, hydrostatic pressure test or non-destructive electrical testing. The following surface finishes may be specified: mill finish, mechanically polished surface finish, No. 80 finish, No. 120 finish, No. 180 finish, No. 240 finish, electropolished finish, and maximum roughness average surface finish. Longitudinal polishing should be performed on the inner surface only, while circumferential polishing should be performed on the inner surface, the outer surface or both.
