Heat Treatment: Annealing at 950-1120°C followed by rapid cooling is necessary for maximum corrosion resistance. Stabilizing treatment at around 870-890°C for 2 hours per 25mm of thickness and air cooling is recommended, especially for severe service conditions above 425°C .
Cold Forming: The alloy is ductile and can be easily cold-formed. It's important to control the amount of cold work to avoid excessive hardening that could lead to cracking .
Welding: 321 stainless steel has excellent weldability. When welding, it's important to use appropriate filler metals like 321, 347, or 348 to prevent intergranular corrosion. Post-weld heat treatment is not generally required due to the material's stabilization with titanium .
Inspection and Testing: Regular non-destructive testing such as ultrasonic, radiographic, or eddy current testing should be performed to ensure there are no defects in the material .
Tolerance and Surface Finish: Close control of tolerances and surface finish is required to meet the strict dimensional and aesthetic requirements of the product .
