Lug Butterfly Valve Description
Lug-type butterfly valve is composed of a valve body, a valve disc, and lugs. Its operating principle is to open and close the valve by leveraging the cooperation between the lugs and the valve disc. When the lugs rotate, the valve disc rotates with them, changing the flow area of the valve opening and controlling the fluid flow.
Design Features Analysis
1. Structural Design: The core components include the valve body, butterfly disc, valve stem, and sealing ring. The disc is disc-shaped, and opening and closing control is achieved through 90° rotation of the valve stem.
2. Connection Method: The lug design utilizes a bolt-through connection, allowing the valve body to be directly clamped between pipe flanges, saving installation space. Compared to wafer-type butterfly valves, the lug structure provides additional support points, enhancing valve stability and making it particularly suitable for applications subject to vibration or significant pressure fluctuations.
3. Sealing Technology: Soft seals (such as EPDM and PTFE) are suitable for medium- and low-pressure environments at room temperature, while metal seals (stainless steel + graphite) are suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure media. Some models utilize a multi-layered sealing structure to enhance leakage protection.
4. Actuation Method: Manual, pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic actuators are supported to meet automation control requirements.
Applications: Primarily used in liquid or gas pipelines in industries such as water treatment, HVAC, fire protection systems, and the food and pharmaceutical industries. It is particularly suitable for large-diameter pipes (DN50-DN1200) and medium- and low-pressure (PN10-PN16) applications. Examples include flow regulation and isolation control in municipal water supply networks.
