Introduction To ASTM A500 Standard

1. This standard covers cold welded seamless carbon steel round tubes, square tubes, rectangular tubes or special shape structural tubes for welding, riveting or bolted structures of bridges and buildings, and general structural tubes.
2. This pipe is a welded pipe and seamless pipe with a wall thickness of 88 inches (2235 mm) and below and a wall thickness of 0.875 inches (22 mm) and below for external use. Grade D requires heat treatment.
Notes 1. Products produced to this standard may not be suitable for use in welded structures where dynamically loaded elements may be important, such as low temperature notch toughness, etc.

3. The value standards of metric basic units and imperial units should be viewed separately according to standards. Metric units in this article are shown in parentheses. The value criteria in each system are not necessarily identical; so each system should be applied independently of the other criteria. The combination of two systems may result in inconsistent standards. Imperial units shall apply in these instructions except as specified in item "M".
4. This specification contains text notes and footnotes used to provide illustrative material. There is no mandatory requirement for such comments and footnotes (not included in tables and figures).
