Introduction to ASTM A333 Grade 6 Straight Seam Welded Pipe
ASTM A333 Grade 6 steel pipe is a commonly used material for low-temperature environments above -45°C. Its minimum yield strength is 240 MPa, and its tensile strength is 415 MPa. ASTM A333 is a standard specification for seamless and welded steel pipes suitable for low-temperature environments and other applications requiring a certain level of notch toughness.

ASTM A333 steel pipes vary in composition and properties depending on their grade. Common examples include Gr.6, which is low-carbon manganese silicon steel with a minimum yield strength of 240 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 415 MPa.
ASTM A333 Circular Welded Pipe Heat Treatment Options
Except for ASTM A333 Grade 8 and 11 pipes, all welded pipes shall be subjected to one of the following heat treatment options to control their microstructure:
1. Normalize at a uniform temperature not lower than 815°C [1500℉], followed by cooling in air or in a controlled atmosphere furnace; or, after normalizing, reheat to a suitable temperature for tempering.
2. For pipes conforming to ASTM A333, reheat and control the temperature for hot working and hot finishing to a finishing temperature range of 845 to 945°C [1550 to 1750℉], followed by cooling in air or in a controlled atmosphere furnace, starting from an initial temperature above 845°C [1550℉]. For steel pipes conforming to ASTM A333, grades 1, 6, and 10, heat treatment can be performed at a uniform temperature above 815°C [1500°F], followed by liquid quenching and reheating to a suitable tempering temperature.
