To ensure the performance of ASTM A106 Welded Carbon Pipe during manufacturing, several critical process parameters must be meticulously controlled:

Material Selection: The steel used should be killed steel, typically derived from open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace processes, possibly with additional degassing or refining .

Chemical Composition: Adherence to strict chemical requirements for carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium, copper, molybdenum, nickel, and vanadium to ensure superior corrosion resistance, strength, and durability .

Hot and Cold Processing: For NPS 2 and larger, pipes must be hot finished. Cold-drawn pipes require heat treatment after the final cold draw pass .

Wall Thickness: The minimum wall thickness at any point should not be more than 12.5% under the nominal wall thickness specified .

Tensile and Yield Strength: The material must conform to the specified minimum tensile and yield strengths, which vary depending on the grade of the pipe .

Hydrostatic Testing: Inspection test pressures should produce a stress equal to 60% of the specified minimum yield strength at room temperature, with maximum pressures not exceeding certain limits based on the pipe size .
