X56 is a medium-strength steel, stronger than X42 and X52, but weaker than X65 and X70, offering good economic advantages.

X56 welded pipe, due to its relatively low carbon equivalent, has good weldability and machinability, making it easier to perform circumferential welding and processing on-site compared to higher-grade steels.

The carbon equivalent calculation formula is:CE(IIW)= C + Mn / 6 +(Cu + Ni)/ 15 +(Cr + Mo + V)/ 5

Heat treatment processing

The heat treatment of API 5L X56 welded pipes typically employs a normalizing process. The core steps are as follows: First, the welded steel pipe is fed into a roller hearth or walking beam normalizing furnace and uniformly heated to a specific temperature above the Ac₃ phase transformation point (approximately 910°C - 930°C) and held for a period of time to allow the internal structure to completely transform into uniform austenite and eliminate welding stress. Subsequently, the steel pipe is rapidly removed from the furnace and uniformly cooled in air. This recrystallization process refines the grains and improves the uniformity of the weld and base material, thereby obtaining stable and standard-compliant comprehensive mechanical properties.
