A691 1-1/4CR Alloy Steel EFW Pipe
Heat treatment may or may not be required to obtain the required mechanical properties. Pipe is classified by steel grade and by the type of heat treatment performed in the pipe fabrication, whether the welds are radiographically inspected, and whether the pipe is pressure tested. Steel welds shall be made manually or automatically by an electrical process involving the deposition of filler metal. Welded joints shall have positive reinforcement at the center on both sides of the weld. The contour of this reinforcement shall be smooth, and the deposited metal shall fuse smoothly and evenly to the plate surface. Joints shall be tensile, bend, and pressure tested. Unacceptable surface imperfections shall be removed by grinding or machining. Depressions after grinding or machining shall blend evenly into the surrounding surface. Repair of welds and parent metal imperfections shall be made by welding.
This specification2 covers carbon and alloy steel pipe, welded by electric fusion with the addition of filler metal, made from pressure vessel quality plate material, in a variety of analysis and strength grades, suitable for high temperature and high pressure service. Heat treatment may or may not be required to achieve the required mechanical properties or to comply with applicable code requirements. Supplementary requirements are provided for use when additional testing or inspection is necessary.
This specification nominally covers pipe 16 inches [400 mm] outside diameter and larger with a wall thickness not exceeding 3 inches [75 mm]. Pipe of other sizes may be furnished provided it complies with all other requirements of this specification.
