1. Cleaning: Solvent or emulsion is used to clean the steel surface to remove oil, grease, dust, lubricants, and similar organic materials. However, it cannot remove rust, scale, weld flux, etc., from the steel surface, so it serves only as an auxiliary method in surface preparation.

2. Pickling: Pickling is typically done using chemical or electrolytic methods. For pipeline corrosion protection, chemical pickling is used to remove scale, rust, old coatings, and sometimes it can be used as a post-treatment after sandblasting for rust removal. Chemical cleaning can achieve a certain degree of cleanliness and surface roughness, but it creates shallow anchor patterns and can potentially pollute the surrounding environment.

3. Tool Rust Removal: Tools such as wire brushes are used to manually polish the steel surface, removing loose scale, rust, weld slag, etc. Manual rust removal can achieve Sa2 grade cleanliness, while power tool rust removal can achieve Sa3 grade. If the steel surface has firmly adhered oxide scale, the effectiveness of tool rust removal may not meet the anchorage depth requirements for corrosion protection construction.

4. Shot Blasting: Shot blasting involves high-powered motors driving blasting blades at high speeds, propelling steel shot, steel grit, wire segments, mineral abrasives, etc., to impact and abrade the surface of straight seam steel pipes. This method thoroughly removes oxides, rust, and dirt, while achieving the uniform roughness required.
