1 Uses of spiral submerged arc welded steel pipes

2 Characteristics of spiral submerged arc welded steel pipes

Spiral submerged arc welding (SSAW) is a process in which the forward direction is spiral (adjustable) with the center line of the forming pipe, and the weld is spiral while forming. The advantage is that the same specification can produce steel pipes of various calibers, the raw materials have a wide range of adaptability, and the weld can better avoid the main stress. The disadvantage is that the weld geometry is poor and the length is longer than the straight seam pipe. It is easy to produce welding defects such as cracking, pores, slag inclusions, and local welding, and the welding stress is in a tensile stress state. In general oil and gas pipeline design specifications, spiral submerged arc welding can only be used in level 3 and 4 areas. Foreign countries change raw materials to steel plate forming and welding, separate pre-welding and lean welding, and cold expansion after welding is close to the welding quality of UOE pipe. At present, the process factory has no direction for this process improvement. "West-East Gas Transmission" is still produced by traditional technology, but the pipe end is expanded. The United States, Japan and Germany generally have a negative attitude towards spiral submerged arc welded pipes, believing that spiral submerged arc welded pipes should not be used in trunk lines; Canada and parts of Italy use spiral submerged arc welded pipes; Kazakhstan uses spiral submerged arc welded pipes in small quantities, and has formulated very strict supplementary conditions. Due to historical reasons, most domestic trunk lines still use spiral submerged arc welded pipes.

Large-diameter welded pipes with narrow billets can be produced, and welded pipes with different diameters of the same width billets can also be produced. Low production cost, simple process, easy to produce large-diameter pipes. Large-diameter welded pipes are mostly spiral submerged arc welded pipes.
