API 5L X80 welded pipe is a type of high-strength, low-carbon, microalloyed pipeline steel pipe. The material has high cleanliness, fine grain size, high toughness, and good weldability. The carbon equivalent of X80 spiral carbon steel welded pipe is relatively low, with minimal hardening tendency and a reduced tendency to crack.

API 5L X80 spiral steel pipes should undergo mechanical performance tests, flattening tests, and expansion tests, meeting the requirements specified in the standards. The pipes should withstand a certain internal pressure, and if necessary, undergo a 2.5 MPa pressure test, maintaining leak-free conditions for one minute. The use of eddy current testing is allowed as a substitute for hydraulic testing. Eddy current testing is carried out in accordance with the standard GB7735 "Eddy Current Testing Method for Steel Pipes". The eddy current testing method involves fixing the probe on the frame, maintaining a distance of 3 to 5 mm from the weld seam, and conducting a comprehensive scan of the weld seam by relying on the rapid movement of the steel pipe. The testing signals are automatically processed and sorted by the eddy current testing instrument to achieve the purpose of testing.
