Product Introduction

JIS G3101 SS400 SSAW Pipe Description

SS400 steel pipe is a Japanese standard carbon structural steel pipe, equivalent to China's Q235 steel. In the Japanese steel grades (JIS series), ordinary structural steel grades consist mainly of three parts: SS400-where the first 'S' stands for Steel, the second 'S' for Structure, and 400 denotes the lower limit of tensile strength of 400 MPa, indicating it is a general structural steel with a tensile strength of 400 MPa.

Inspection of SS400 Spiral Steel Pipes

1. Visual Inspection:
Visual inspection of spiral pipes is a widely used and simple testing method, crucial for product inspection to detect defects and deviations, particularly on the surface of weld seams. This inspection is typically conducted visually using standard models, instruments, and tools such as magnifying glasses. Surface defects and welding flaws may indicate internal issues.

2. Physical Testing Methods:
Physical testing methods rely on detecting physical phenomena or using specific physical testing techniques. Non-destructive testing methods are generally employed to inspect defects inside materials or within the welds of spiral pipes. Methods include ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, etc.

3. Hydrostatic Test Standards for Spiral Steel Pipes:
Every pipe undergoes a hydrostatic test to ensure there are no leaks. The test pressure (Mpa S-static hydrostatic test pressure) is calculated as P = 2ST/D, where D is the pipe diameter. For pipes with D < 508, the test duration is less than 5 seconds; for D ≥ 508, the test duration is less than 10 seconds. Weld seams, steel head joints, and circumferential welds undergo non-destructive testing, typically using X-ray or ultrasonic inspection. For pipes transporting inflammable fluids, 100% X-ray or ultrasonic testing is required. For general heating fluid transport pipes (water, sewage, air, steam), spiral welds should undergo X-ray or ultrasonic testing (20%).
