ASTM A53 Resistance Welded Pipe Product Introduction
ASTM A53 and ASME SA53 are suitable for mechanical and pressure applications, and also for general applications involving steam, water, gas, and air piping. They are suitable for welding and forming operations such as coiling, bending, and flanging, subject to specific conditions.
A53 covers seamless and welded, black and hot-dip galvanized steel pipes of nominal (average) wall thickness, suitable for coiling, bending, flanging, and other special applications, and suitable for welding. Continuously welded steel pipes are not suitable for flanging. The intended use of the steel pipes should be specified in the order. Seamless and welded steel pipes should be manufactured using one or more of the following processes: open-hearth furnace, electric furnace, or basic oxygen converter. The weld seam of Class B resistance welded steel pipes should be heat-treated after welding.

ASTM A53 Hydrostatic Testing of Resistance Welded Pipes
This standard specifies the hydrostatic test pressure for plain-end pipes, threaded pipes, and jointed pipes. The hydrostatic test time for all sizes of seamless pipes and resistance-welded pipes must not be less than 5 seconds. The hydrostatic test for ASTM A53 resistance-welded pipes strictly follows the standard specifications, requiring mandatory pressure verification for each finished pipe section. The test pressure is calculated based on the pipe diameter and wall thickness and must not be lower than the minimum pressure value specified for the corresponding steel grade. During the pressure holding process, it must be ensured that there is no leakage or plastic deformation in the pipe body, welds, and joints.
