ERW pipe definition
Electric resistance welded pipe is produced by low frequency or high frequency resistance. ERW pipe has the characteristics of high strength and good durability, and is suitable for fluid transmission and other structural applications.
ERW pipe manufacturing process
ERW (electric resistance welded) pipe is made by cold forming flat steel plate into a cylinder and fusing the edges together by passing electricity. There are two main types of ERW process:
1. High frequency welding
Typical process of high frequency welding: uncoiling – strip straightening machine – head and tail cutting – strip butt – loop hopper – forming – welding – deburring – sizing – defects – flying shear – initial verification – pipe straightening – pipe processing – hydrostatic test – defect detection – printing and coating – finishing.
2. Rotating contact wheel welding
In rotating contact wheel welding, the current passes through the contact wheel at the welding point. This contact wheel applies part of the forging pressure required for the welding process.
